My wife and I needed a place to go just for the day. Since spring has arrived, Borrego Springs and the wild flowers seemed a good choice. The snapshots on the left are a few of the photos we took while there. A few of the pictures are of the hills and cactus. If I were to go again, I would turn right just short of the Visitors Center and go to the Palm Canyon Camp Ground. It has great faciities for both camping and day use hiking and shaded hooches for the family to relax in the shade and eat or ???? There also are two shots of a restaurant my wife found on the east side of the town of Borrego Springs called the Red Ocotillo. Since then Fred F took some additional pics that have been added to what we had. It is visible from the main road on the left side as you are headed toward Salton Sea or east. The restaurant consists of a well used quonset hut and has a lovely patio in the back which is billed as pet friendly. They provide water dishes for the dogs as well as a safe sand area for the necessities of doggie travel. We found the patio full and had to wait because most of the patio was taken up by the "Harley Riders for Christ". Fortunately they left their pet Hogs out front. We also encountered a lovely couple and their mutt, who allowed us and our mutt to join their table. A great burger for about 10 bucks, a good looking breakfast menu and a comfortable, cool patio at which your dog is welcome to sit by you while you eat is available. While we were there a waitress dropped a burger on the patio floor. I had never before seen a group of dogs howl the word "ENCORE". It was truly an inspiring site to behold ! It is also worth your time to stop and check this place out. If you don't have a pet or a Hog, put a leash on your old man. They'll understand.
Words of warning!!!! Bring lots of water and drink it, don't try to save it ! If you bring a pooch be aware of the cactus needles, ugly pointy things and snakes that make the poor paws miserable. Many dirt paths are restricted and dogs not allowed on them. The heat can be intense. Be prepared with head and body cover, 1st aid kits (for hikers), emergency calories and water, water, water. For great advice for hiking or remote stuff contact Fred F. or Master Gunny Fritz. They have real world experience and can help you to be safe with minimal weight and bulk ! Also remember the camera and extra batteries. Have fun and by all means stop and enjoy the flowers !!!
